Each nylon insert is press-fit into the steel head with ridges that hold it securely in place. It does not unscrew.

To remove a worn insert, clamp the nylon insert into a vise so the jaws grip the sides of the insert firmly with the head facing upright. Rock the head gently back and forth to unseat the insert until it pops free.

To install the new insert, place the insert flat on a sturdy surface, then position the hammer over it with the open side facing down. Tap the opposite face of the hammer (the side with the steel face) until the new insert seats fully into place.
