Official Hand Tool of the Big Tire Garage
Ian Johnson, owner and operator of the Big Tire Garage, first got his hands on Tekton tools in fall of 2019 while participating in the cross-country Trail to SEMA event. This 12-day expedition takes its participants through some of the toughest trails in the country for an offroad challenge that ends at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
During the trip, Ian needed to do some work on his rig and borrowed a Tekton Socket and Ratchet Set from a fellow trailmate. Ian was impressed with the quality and performance of the tools and knew right away that he'd want to get a set for himself.
Later, our team caught up with Ian at the SEMA Show and then again at the Performance Racing Show in Indianapolis. We talked about his experience, and discussed further about who we are as a company and what makes our tools different, plus the emphasis that we put on supporting our products and offering easy-to-access tool help.
We knew of Ian from a few of his television roles, including when he co-hosted Spike TV's show Extreme 4x4 and his more recent role as host of FourWheeler on Motortrend. But what we didn't know was that Ian had also spent nine years teaching high school welding, auto, and machine shop classes.
Knowing first hand the challenges of funding educational programs and of getting started as a new technician, Ian was eager to spread the news about the Tekton Student and Educator Programs. Through these programs, we offer special discounts to those studying and teaching in skilled trade schools to help them build their tool collections.
